Lansing Writers' Group (LWG)

If you are in the Lansing, Ithaca, Freeville, or Groton, NY area, and are interested in joining a writers' group, I have worked with the Lansing Community Library to start a new one there as of January 20, 2010. Contact me through the Yahoo group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lansingwritersgroup/, for more information. The meetings are at the Lansing Community Library in various rooms as they have space. Meetings are 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. or later each Wednesday unless otherwise indicated via the Yahoo Group or the Library. This is not an online group despite us having an online presence.

Berkshire Writers' Group (BWG)

The BWG met every Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. -7 p.m. in my home or the Berkshire Public Library. We recapped our writing week, challenged each other with a writing assignment for the following week, broadened our vocabulary horizons with a word challenge, critiqued each other's work, and shared tips on getting information about advancing our careers in writing. We still have an online presence where we periodically interact. You may contact us by requesting to join our Yahoo group. Search for "berkshirewritersgroup". We will then contact you to determine how we may be of assistance.

Tips

If you can't find a writers' group in your area, start one! Even if you live in a small community, there are likely to be people who share your love of the written word, even if you don't share a genre. There are only a few steps needed to get you going:

Decide what you want out of a regular meeting
Find a location to have it, preferably somewhere public...a library or fire hall
Determine a regular time and date; once a week or once a month?
Advertise, requesting that people sign up; the location you choose will probably let you do this there
Meet with the group and discuss their goals; this is how you decide what your group is going to do; decide at least one regular activity
